Transport and The 80's Guesthouse Penang

This is my second time visit to Penang this year within 3 months, and first time by taking overnight train and catching the earliest departure Ferry (RM1.20 per trip, free of charge to back to mainland) from Butterworth Terminal to the Weld Quay on the island.

During the 8 hours journey on the bed (RM40 for upper bed) in train , I couldn't fall asleep at all, not because it is uncomfortable, but rather I read book and look out the small window throughout the journey.

I took an early morning bus (RM39) to Sg Nibong Terminal which direct to the island for my previous trip.
Personally think train is a better option compare to bus.
Train can be really cheap (as low as RM19 per seat) and you can save up a night for hotel, also safer than taking a midnight bus.

Took a bus from Weld Quay to Gurney Drive and lucky enough to catch the beautiful sunrise.

While waiting for the soup to be ready at Carnation Bak Kut Teh, ordered this clay pot fish noodle which tastes pretty good. Didn't took a photo of the Bak Kut Teh. It's my first time eating Bak Kut Teh in Penang, I wouldn't say I prefer KL's BKT more but Penang's BKT has lighter taste which just suitable for breakfast.

Found this superb guesthouse last minute before booking another guesthouse.
The 80's Guesthouse at Love Lane.

The breakfast/coffee/tea bar.

Table downstairs for everyone's use.

Talking chairs/reading corner.

View from upstairs.

I had a wonderful stay at this lovely guesthouse!

Friendly and helpful staff, very powerful shower heads (everything you seek for after walking and sweating in the town), my favourite vintage interior without changing structure of the heritage house, bathroom and toilet is very clean even its a shared one.

The only fly in the ointment is the noise when people walking at the corridor due to the building is wooden floor which might affect the sleeping quality but its alright because they made it up with the oh-so-comfortable linen and duvet.
Not to forget the strategic location, just behind 7-11 at Chulia Street. Walking distance to the bus terminal and all the street food!
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a budget stay or for backpackers :)

This is how the guesthouse looks like from outside.

Burgertory, SS15

Another burgerjoint that sell pork burger!

I come to this shop after my swimming test (sigh the test is a disaster to me (′へ`、 ) )
looking awful with messy hair and like a hungry monster...

I am shy to take more photos of the interior because it is full house although it is located at first floor!
(above guardian) Σ( ° △ °|||)︴
Anyhow, I really love love love the concept of this burger joint!
Tables, benches, lights are all handmade/DIY! Fascinating right!

The idea of serving combo with this metal basket is really creative and neat.

Mascarpone curry & cheese. the pork patty is crazily thick!

My Bonito Classic.
I find the taste of this pork patty is more interesting maybe because its added with some herbs and crushed peppercorn.
Compare to Grind Burger Bar which is more simple and pure taste. Both are delicious anyway.

Fry Combo - Fries, Cheesestick, Onion Ring, Pimanto sauce.
Fries: Awesomeness dip and eat with Pimanto sauce. Fries is crispy, sauce didn't let me down. PASS <3
Cheesestick: mehhh no cheese ooze out? :((( maybe because save it for last :(
Onion ring: I'll go back to Grind... lol. find the onion quite hard to bite. but outside is crispy.

Yeah I hope to come back again if I'm around ss15...

Oh yea not to forget their business hour is 6pm to 11pm, off on Monday.
so look at your watch before you go!

Nutmeg KL, Bangsar Villlage Mall

9th Aug - overdue post

Intended to go Antipodean but the queue is insane so we hang around BV looking for brunch place.
Stopped by this restaurant which is quite crowded, serving breakfast too!

// greens above where I sit.

Nutmeg Big Breakfast (all day) : two eggs any style, lamb sausage, confit mushrooms, roasted garlic tomatoes, hashed potatoes or fried mac & cheese, house-cured salmon or salt beef, toasted brioche.

This is not mine cz I've had my breakkie before this.
However despite it is served with my favourite salmon but this is not my kind of breakfast, dining at Bangsar area is out of my interest due to the traffic and overpriced food.
It depends how you value it. RM30 for breakfast like this, definitely not something I can afford/willing to pay at my level now. Not a fans of big breakfast anyway.

They do have other choices of breakfast/light food which is quite interesting but I was too stuffed...

// rarely see cutlery wrapped in napkin nowadays.

 //  Macchiato.

if I'll come back here again one day, it will be the attraction of the dessert.

Artisan Roast HQ, Section 13

- 8th Aug -

so this is during the first day of Raya, the city is so empty, everywhere is so smooth to drive.

suitable for a coffee mood, relaxing.

self service.

// while waiting for our coffee.

// walking upstairs because we prefer space with less people
//// btw this place is really huge for a cafe.

 white chocolate / dark chocolate

lemon is love. ヽ( ´ ∇ ` )ノ

this dolce mocha has a very smooth texture!

perfect noon.

 // just another space.

well I find this light is really match with this factory-like designed cafe.

my camera couldn't capture the whole space, its too huge!

As we decided to leave the cafe is already filled with people.
Cafe with such a huge space might be a pull but it'll be a push when its packed.

Anyhow, I'm craving for the lemon cake already! ヾ(´ρ`)ノ

Shakespeare Boulangerie & Patisserie, SS15

Knew this bakery shop which serves breakfast too from ig few weeks ago and coincidentally passed by it one day, totally attracted by the design outside! Its a corner shop facing housing area/Taylor Canada Pre-U.

The shop is actually quite big, I sit beside the main door :)

Earl Grey Tea. RM2.5 only if add on with breakfast! :D

Tuna Mushroom Croissant. Tuna is not too dry nor too moisture with mayo or any sauce, just an average taste which I can finish it without feeling greasy.
Mixed of enoki, oyster mushroom and clamshell mushroom with my favourite ground black pepper.  ( ̄ˇ ̄)

Croissant is quite up to the standard but they cut it half completely which I don't like (︶^︶)
Maybe its because the mushroom is too much, oh well...
btw it comes with potatoes cube with tomato puree and salad with roasted(?) sesame sauce too!
Quite a nice combination!

Shakespeare Sandwich Garden.

Left: grilled chicken sandwich which made up of baguette topped eggplant, pepper, grilled chicken.
Right: creamy cheese sandwich is topped with tomato and cheese powder and cheese inside the baguette.

Smoked salmon sandwich which served with avocado and pesto. I tried a bite, it was not bad :)

After breakfast I walk to the pastry corner to have a look.

decide to take away when I see mini croissant (′▽‵)╯

Mini Caramel Croissant , Mini Almond Oats Croissant.
both are nice even tho I eat it 6hrs after I bought it without heat it up!
this two little mini croissant delight me with cost of RM2.8 only!

Breakfast time: 8am - 10.45am
They have different menu for lunch/dinner time :)

The total breakfast bill cost around RM22, which is pretty cheap since the environment is cozy and relaxing. one bad thing is not easy to find a parking at ss15, totally not relaxing when it comes to that!

Table Talk, TTDI

Yesterday was the last day of my raya break, it simply means that last day for me to hunt for new breakkie/brunch place before my schedule packed with study & work.

It was a spontaneous decision when we're otw to brunch heading to no where!
Stumble across this restaurant on ig few weeks ago and its already in my to-try-list since the price is average and nearby my place!

We really like the presentation of the menu with simplicity food pictures!

Jr says these paintings look familiar, she think she saw it at a hospital before lol.

It is a lovely corner for family :)

We ordered a pot of Chamomile tea and asked for two cups. No additional charge for extra cup.
The design of the tea cup and plate make us smile :)

Ultimate Breakkie. We like the spinach, I prefer the baked beans more though!
Suggest scrambled egg instead of fried egg because........... keep reading then you'll know! :P

Baked Egg with Cheese. The egg is half-cooked underneath the cheese, the taste of this dish is average, I'll prefer if they use minced meat instead of sausage.
 Turkey Ham & Egg Sandwich.
I ordered this because croissant is my favourite! and I am not regret! The croissant is not too buttery (I've tried some which taste quite good but too much for me to handle more!) , and its crispy outside, soft inside! Totally meet my liking!
Bee loves the turkey ham!
Not to forget the scrambled is so fluffy I'm gonna dieeeeeeeee

LOOK AT THE GENEROUS AMOUNT OF SCRAMBLED EGG  ˋ( ° ▽、° )

I guess when a bunch of girls dine together, there must be dessert!

I didn't see whats the name of this dessert stated on the menu. If its a chocolate lava cake then its overcooked, more like a not fully cooked chocolate muffin to us, quite a disappointment. It did cheer me up a lil bit by eating with strawberry and ice cream...

can't help it, I like this background too much!

As we're leaving before 2pm the restaurant is full with people already.
Whatever main course passed by looks tempting!  ( ̄﹁ ̄)
Hope to try those at my second visit!

If you looking for late breakkie for brunch I guess this will a good option since the price quite affordable, food is not bad and friendly staff. :)
